 The myths and origin

There is a few myth about the origins of Claddagh ring. One of these myths is a tale of Richard Joyce. Richard was a young man a native of Galway from the small fishing village who just has met his true love. One day, he went out on a fishing boat and the fishing boat he was on has been captured by pirates. These pirates sold Richard and others on the boat as slaves. Richard was sold to a Moorish goldsmith where he worked and learned to design. As he worked, he stole very tiny amounts of gold and years later he had enough gold to make a ring. He designed a ring in hope of returning to his village to present the ring to his true love, which seemed nearly impossible.

Richard was finally able to present his ring to his true love, a ring he made in a hope of seeing her again and married her. The ring he has made became known as a Claddagh ring.
